SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS.

Children build social-emotional skills through communication with their peers, and adults. Group-based settings offer children an opportunity to explore their emotions, social abilities, and provide an opportunity for therapists to implement evidence-based approaches to teach social behaviors.

Through careful consultation with parents, we work together to identify social-emotional and self-regulation goals. During the group sessions we work to guide and encourage children to work on these areas with their peers.

We have identified the following 10 areas as the most important for children:

  1. Following directions

  2. Listening to your peers

  3. Understanding others feelings

  4. Taking turns and sharing

  5. Greeting others

  6. Respecting personal space

  7. Using manners and being polite

  8. Negotiating

  9. Having patience and learning to wait

  10. Good sportsmanship
